Our nation has become one of the fattest nations in the world. Due to cheap fast food chain restaurants being on every corner, it has made it a lot easier to settle for unhealthy foods to save time. When healthy foods are higher priced than fatty foods then it is time for a change. Obesity is a growing crisis in America, it has become widely accepted. Social media and the food market have been influences in obesity rates today by not shaming the people who chose to put their life at risk. Obesity can be defined as having a body mass index or BMI of 30 or more. Americans need to be educated on what they are putting into their bodies. Diabetes and high blood pressure are big issues in today’s society due to being overweight. Although it should not be shamed it should also not be praised because when it is praised then that is pretty much telling the person that it is okay to throw their life away. Social media has become a culprit in making overweight or obese people feel accepted recently. Plus size models have become popular to see in magazines. People are posting about how â€Å"Big is beautiful† and â€Å"Everyone is beautiful in their own way†, which is great to know that people are becoming more accepting instead of just spreading hate but we as Americans should be making people feel like their health and lives matter not just their appearance. Inactivity and lack of exercise has become a big thing in today’s society that leads to people being overweight or ultimately obese. A recent study by Georgia State University revealed that many Americans, especially women are losing interest in their weight and psychical appearance (Gussone).
